CAMPBELLSPORT – Marshfield had five individual champions and edged Coleman, the No. 1-ranked wrestling team in Division 3 according to Crossface magazine, by 2½ points to claim the team title at the Campbellsport Invitational on Saturday.
Torin Boernke (140 pounds), Josh Shupe (145), Brad Dolezal (160), Justin Sternweis (171) and Ben Wartella (215) won championships in their respective weight classes for Marshfield.
Wartella won his title match by earning a pin in overtime. For Sternweis, it is his first individual tournament title on Marshfield’s varsity.
Robert Wille was second at 189 pounds, and Toran Nieman (112), Tyler Manthe (119), Ian Gaertner (130), Daniel Barton (135) and Cody Cheek (285) finished third for the Tigers.
Marshfield opens its Wisconsin Valley Conference dual season Thursday at home against Wausau West.
