Marshfield High School wrestler Hoyt Blaskowski has been voted the Awards ‘n’ More December High School Athlete of the Month.
MarshfieldAreaSports.com & Zaleski Sports are co-sponsors of the award for the 2022-23 school year. The monthly award will continue through June 2023, and the winners of the Awards ‘n’ More High School Athlete of the Year, for both male and female athletes, will be announced in July.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Amherst, Athens, Assumption, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, D.C. Everest, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Iola-Scandinavia, Loyal, Marshfield, Mosinee, Neillsville, Newman Catholic, Pacelli, Pittsville, Port Edwards, Rosholt, Spencer, Stratford, Stevens Point, Wild Rose, Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln and Wittenberg-Birnamwood.
Blaskowski received 1,612 of the nearly 4,000 votes cast during voting from Jan. 4-11 at MarshfieldAreaSports.com.
Other nominees for the December award were: Athens girls basketball player Sophia Coker, Abbotsford girls basketball player Sydney Falteisek, D.C. Everest boys basketball player Marcus Hall, Neillsville girls basketball player Paris Opelt and Auburndale wrestler Sloan Welch.
Blaskowski, a senior, won the 145-pound championship at the Bi-State Classic on Dec. 29-30 in La Crosse, extending his record to a perfect 21-0 as the Tigers finished second in the Division 1 standings at the tournament. Blaskowski also won the 152-pound title at the Shawano Invitational on Dec. 17, and was a perfect 4-0 at the Stoughton Piper Duals on Dec. 3 and the Devil Duals at Wisconsin Dells on Dec. 10.
