Neillsville soars to big first-half lead, finishes off win over Spencer boys basketball

SPENCER – Neillsville jumped out to a huge lead by halftime and were able to hold off Spencer 75-52 in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division boys basketball season finale on Friday at Spencer High School.

The Warriors (14-8, 10-4 Cloverbelt East) raced out to a 47-26 lead by halftime and cruised to the win.

Jonathan Jonas had 14 points and Luke Roehrborn added 10 for Spencer (6-16, 4-10 Cloverbelt East).

Andrew Brown topped Neillsville with 27 points, which included six 3-pointers.

The Rockets host Athens in a nonconference game Monday before finishing its regular-season schedule at Stanley-Boyd in the sixth-place game of the Cloverbelt Conference crossovers on Thursday.

The WIAA boys basketball playoff brackets will be announced Sunday at 3 p.m.
