Stratford boys basketball loses shootout at Colby

COLBY – The Stratford boys basketball team made 13 3-pointers but it wasn’t quite enough as it lost a shootout to Colby 86-80 on Monday night at Colby High School.

Ashton Wrensch scored 25 points, Caden Bruesewitz added 16 and Brady Schmidt had 15, combining for 12 of the team’s 13 3-pointers in the loss for Stratford (11-10).

Tevin Rue had 27 points and Kaden Wiese added 21 for Colby, the Cloverbelt Conference East Division champions, as the Hornets improve to 16-4.

Stratford will host Wausau Newman Catholic in its regular-season and Marawood Conference South Division finale on Thursday. The Tigers open the WIAA playoffs with a Division 4 regional quarterfinal at home against Abbotsford on Feb. 28.
