Stratford girls basketball wins Marawood South opener

PITTSVILLE – Stratford pulled away with a 15-2 run in the third quarter on its way to a 46-26 win over Pittsville in the girls basketball Marawood Conference South Division opener for both teams.

Stratford turned a 22-16 halftime lead into a dominating 37-18 advantage after three quarters.

Haley Austin scored 13 points, Jenessa Denfeld had 11 points and six rebounds, and Hannah Schmitt had six points and eight rebounds to lead the Tigers (2-0, 1-0 Marawood South).

Stratford made 15 of 19 free throws to preserve the win.

Pittsville falls to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the Marawood South.

Stratford hosts Marathon on Tuesday.
