STRATFORD – The Stratford boys basketball team used a dominant first half to take care of Necedah, cruising to a 55-38 win in a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal Friday night at Stratford High School.
The No. 4 seed Stratford (13-11) guarantees itself a winning season and moves on to a regional final Saturday night at No. 1 seed Marathon (22-3). The winner moves into next week’s sectionals.
Marathon routed Westfield 76-49 on Friday for its ninth-straight win. The Marawood Conference South Division champions defeated Stratford in both conference matchups this season, winning 60-35 on Dec. 16 and 62-51 on Jan. 31.
Stratford led 25-11 at halftime and were able to finish off the victory behind junior Brady Schmidt, who drilled 6 of 9 3-pointers to finish with a game-high 24 points.
Ashton Wrensch added 13 points for the Tigers.
