MADISON – The Stratford wrestling team’s postseason run came to an end Saturday morning as the Tigers dropped a 55-13 decision to Fennimore in a Division 3 semifinal dual at the 2023 WIAA State Team Wrestling Tournament at the University of Wisconsin Field House.
Fennimore won the first three matches, all by pin, before Stratford earned its first victory as Colin Cournoyer won a 9-1 major decision at 106 pounds.
Fennimore then ripped off eight-straight wins to clinch the victory.
Carter Lueck won by pin at 170 and Jackson Ormond finished off the match with a 3-1 win at 182 for Stratford’s other two match wins.
Fennimore defeated Shiocton 43-18 in Division 3 championship match to win its second-straight state title. Shiocton defeated Cedar Grove-Belgium 42-25 in the other semifinal match.
