GREEN BAY – Five divisonal champions were crowned at the 47th WiAA State Girls Basketball Tournament on Saturday, March 11, at Resch Center.
Kettle Moraine (28-1) repeated as Division 1 championships, downing Brookfield East 47-40 to cap off the day Saturday.
Chippewa Falls McDonell (26-5) won its first-ever state title, taking the Division 5 crown with a 61-46 win over Blair-Taylor.
Laconia (27-3) also won its first state championship in program history with a dominating 64-51 victory over La Crosse Aquinas in the D-4 final. Aquinas was at state for the sixth time in the past seven seasons.
In Division 3, Kewaskum (24-5), in its first state tournament since 1982, is a first-time champ as well as defeating Milwaukee Academy of Science 65-51.
Green Bay Notre Dame (29-1) captured its third-straight Division 2 state championship with a 64-49 win over Pewaukee in a rematch of last year’s final. The title is Notre Dame’s sixth, after having won championships in 2011, 2013 and 2014 as well.
