Marshfield High School swimmer Kyle Berres has been voted the Awards ‘n’ More February High School Athlete of the Month.
MarshfieldAreaSports.com & Zaleski Sports are co-sponsors of the award for the 2022-23 school year. The monthly award will continue through June 2023, and the winners of the Awards ‘n’ More High School Athlete of the Year, for both male and female athletes, will be announced in July.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Amherst, Athens, Assumption, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, D.C. Everest, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Iola-Scandinavia, Loyal, Marshfield, Mosinee, Neillsville, Newman Catholic, Pacelli, Pittsville, Port Edwards, Rosholt, Spencer, Stratford, Stevens Point, Wild Rose, Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln and Wittenberg-Birnamwood.
Berres received 1,775 of the nearly 4,000 votes cast during voting from March 1-8 at MarshfieldAreaSports.com.
Other nominees for the February award were: Stevens Point Pacelli boys basketball player Jaydon Awe, Stevens Point girls basketball player Emma Jossie, Neillsville girls basketball player Paris Opelt and Auburndale wrestler Sloan Welch.
Berres, a senior, completed his career for the Tigers swim team at the WIAA State Boys Swimming Championships on Feb. 18. Berres won 14 of 16 Wisconsin Valley Conference races this season, and took second in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle at the conference meet on Feb. 2. At the state meet, Berres was part of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that finished 20th while setting a new school record of 1:31.24. He also broke the school 50-yard freestyle record with a time of 22.03 during the season.
