OWEN – Owen-Withee built a double-digit lead in the first quarter and held off Marshfield Columbus Catholic the rest of the way, winning the battle of Cloverbelt Conference East Division girls basketball co-leaders Friday night 44-33 at Owen-Withee High School.
The Blackhawks (4-0, 3-0 Cloverbelt East) jumped out to an 18-8 lead after the first quarter and essentially played even the rest of the way.
Columbus was hurt by poor shooting, making just 12 of 40 shots from the field and 0 of 3 from 3-point range. Angie Seubert scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Dons, who fall to 3-3 and 2-1 in the Cloverbelt East.
Bailey Karaba scored 13 points and Aleyna Goerlitz added 11 for the Blackhawks.
Columbus Catholic returns to action next Thursday at home against Colby.
