RHINELANDER – The Marshfield softball team rolled to its bracket title at the Rhinleander Invitational on Friday, posting a pair of 10-run rule victories at the Hodag Dome.
Marshfield whipped Lakeland 15-2 and Rhinelander 10-0 to finish the two-day tournament and bump its season record to 3-0.
In the semifinal matchup with Lakeland, Marshfield scored eight times in the second inning and added seven more in the fifth to open up a huge lead.
Katelyn Sternweis had two hits, Shylah Brogan drove in three runs and Ashlyn Barwick added a pair of RBI for the Tigers.
Madison Kraus had a double and a home run and two RBI, Lydia Garvin added two RBI, and Lexi Fischer and Barwick each had two hits in the win over Rhinelander.
Sternweis earned the win on the mound in both games. She struck out seven and walked two in four innings against Lakeland, allowing just two hits. Sternweis finished up the tournament with a five-inning one-hitter and nine strikeouts against Northland Pines.
Marshfield is scheduled to play a nonconference doubleheader at home on Saturday, April 1, weather permitting.
