AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale softball team kicked off its 2023 season in style, winning all three games to take its bracket championship at the Rhinelander Invitational inside the Hodag Dome on Saturday and Sunday.
Auburndale defeated Waupaca 15-2 and Shawano 7-6 on Saturday, then won the championship game Sunday over Rib Lake, 11-4.
Ashlyn Grimm had three hits and scored twice, Danika Blomberg had two hits, and Taylor Anderson had a two RBI for the Eagles in the win over Waupaca.
Grimm also earned the win, allowing one run in four innings.
In Game 2 against Shawano, Auburndale fell behind 3-0 before rallying to take the lead and held on by a run the rest of the way. Samantha Stanton earned the win and Grimm the save. Erin Griesbach had two hits and three RBI.
Against Rib Lake, the Eagles scored nine runs during the first three innings to take command.
Mya Krings had a two-run double and a solo home run, and Anderson had three hits and scored twice for the Eagles.
Auburndale’s next scheduled game is Tuesday at home against Wautoma at 4:45 p.m.
