RHINELANDER – The Spencer softball team opened its 2023 season with three losses at the Rhinelander Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at the Hodag Invitational.
Spencer lost to Mellen 17-0 and Shiocton 17-0 on Saturday, and fell to Flambeau 18-5 on Sunday.
Spencer was held to one hit in the loss to Shiocton, a single by Ema Schultz. The game ended in three innings due to the 15-run rule.
Spencer was down 6-4 after scoring three times in the top of the fourth, before Flambeau blew the game open with a 12-run bottom of the fourth.
The Rockets had nine hits, two each from Hannah Schreiner, Schultz and Kaelyn Schreiner.
Spencer’s next scheduled game is Thursday against Athens at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School, weather permitting.
