MARSHFIELD – New Richmond scored in the seventh minute and it held up the rest of the way as it downed Marshfield 1-0 in a nonconference girls soccer game Friday at Heiting Community Stadium at Marshfield High School.

Marah Bennedict scored at the 6:13 mark of the first period for New Richmond for the game’s only score.

Payton Bremer had five saves in goal for Marshfield, which falls to 2-2 this season.

“The first half was not a great half for Marshfield and we talked about our first touch causing many of our issues,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “The second half was much better and we played like should. We have high expectations of the entire team and we are confident in the girls.”

Marshfield will play a nonconference game at Eau Claire North on Tuesday at 5 p.m. before hosting Wausau East for its Wisconsin Valley Conference opener Thursday at 5 p.m.
