WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Stratford baseball team pounded out 25 hits that produced 26 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Wisconsin Rapids Assumption in the Marawood Conference South Division openers for both teams on Tuesday at Witter Field.
Stratford won 10-0 and 16-3 to improve to 3-1 this season.
In Game 1, Jack Tubbs and Brady Schmidt each had three hits from the top two spots in the Stratford lineup to set the pace. Tubbs drove in three and Schmidt two, and Cole Tichy added a pair of RBI in the win.
Henry Zaleski picked up the pitching victory, striking out four in four innings. Schmidt finished off the shutout with four strikeouts in two innings.
Jackson Ormond had three doubles and five RBI in the second game for the Tigers, who scored nine times in the first two innings to take control.
Tubbs and Schmidt each added two hits and score three times, and Vance Kielman, Zaleski and Riley Spindler all added two RBI in the win.
Braeden Schueller and Ormond each had three strikeouts on the mound.
Stratford will play a nonconference game at Nekoosa on Friday.
