WISCONSIN DELLS – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic baseball team split a pair of nonconference games at the Woodside Sports Complex on Friday.
The Dons routed Barron 11-1 before losing to Escanaba (Mich.) 8-3 as their season record moves to 1-2.
Blake Jakobi struck out four in five innings to earn the win against Barron, and also went 4-for-4 with a double, a triple and three RBI to lead the way for Columbus Catholic.
Emmitt Konieczny drove in three runs, and Mac Konieczny and Devlin Timmler each had two RBI in the win for the Dons.
Columbus was held to five hits in the loss to Escanaba, one of which was a solo home run by Emmitt Konieczny.
Weather permitting, Columbus Catholic will host Stevens Point Pacelli in its home opener at Jack Hackman Field on Monday.
