HOLMEN – Avery Weister scored with just more than 16 minutes left in the game to salvage a 2-2 tie for the Marshfield girls soccer team in a nonconference match with Holmen on Friday.

After Holmen scored just 1:35 into the game, Weister tied it with a goal 1:44 into the second half.

Holmen regained the lead four minutes later before Weister knotted the score with 16:08 to go and the tie score held the rest of the way.

“We played our best overall game of the season,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “You take away the first two minutes and we have a victory over a quality opponent. We changed a few players around and they responded playing like we knew they could to really help the team. Even though we are six games into the season, we are looking at opportunities to put girls in the right positions to have added success.”

Marshfield (2-3-1) plays a nonconference game at Appleton West on Monday before opening its Wisconsin Valley Conference schedule at Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday.
