STEVENS POINT – Stevens Point scored six unearned runs in the first two innings thanks to three Marshfield errors and went on to a 6-2 victory in a Wisconsin Valley Conference softball game Tuesday at Woyak Park.
The Panthers scored four times in the first inning with the help of two Marshfield errors, a sacrifice fly by Brayley Lake and an RBI single from Addie Simonson.
Stevens Point added two more in the second on an RBI double by Maren Sauvageau and another Marshfield error.
Marshfield pitcher Katelyn Sternweis settled in from there, throwing four-straight shutout innings, but the damage was done and the Tigers’ offense couldn’t do enough against Sauvageau, who struck out seven and allowed just one walk in a complete game.
Marshfield’s only two runs came in the sixth when Lydia Garvin had an RBI single and later scored on a wild pitch.
Marshfield falls to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, while Stevens Point is now 4-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
Both teams return to action Thursday with Marshfield hosting Wausau East and Stevens Point traveling to Wisconsin Rapids.
