WAUSAU – Four games, four wins for the Marshfield boys basketball team.

Cale Zuiker scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and Ian Padron added 18 points to lead the Tigers to a narrow 61-57 win at Wausau West on Tuesday night.

The Tigers improve to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, while West falls to 3-4 and 0-2 in the Valley.

The game was tight throughout, with Marshfield holding on to one-point leads at the end of the second and third quarters.

The Tigers built a seven-point lead in the fourth before free-throw woes helped West get back in it.

Marshfield made just 1 of 7 from the free-throw line in the fourth, but were able to hold off the Warriors.

“It was a tough game,” Marshfield coach Craig Michaelis said. “West gave us everything they had for four quarters. It was definitely not one of better defensive games, but we were able to score basketball.”

Marshfield will take its perfect record into a home game Friday against Stevens Point.

“We still have a lot of improvement to make, but it’s nice to be working on things with a 4-0 record than having to work on them after tough losses,” Michaelis said. “I regard this as a tough, and in some ways, ugly win. It was part of what we did and some credit also goes to what West did.”

Travis Schertz led the Warriors with 23 points. West lost for the third straight time following a three-game win streak.
