WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Samantha Stanton hit a three-run walk-off home run to lift the Auburndale softball team to a split of a Marawood Conference South Division doubleheader with Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Friday.
Assumption won the first game 7-1 before the Eagles came from behind for an 8-7 win in Game 2.
Assumption scored four times in the bottom of the first inning of the opener and rode the arm of pitcher Ava Schill the rest of the way to finish off the win.
Schill allowed just four hits and two walks while striking out five, and added a pair of hits and two runs scored for the Royals.
In Game 2, Auburndale scored four times in the first and once in the second to open up a 5-1 lead. Erin Griesbach clocked a two-run homer to help the Eagles forge ahead.
Assumption quickly responded with four runs in the third and added two more in the sixth to take a 7-5 lead before Stanton’s homer off Schill, who had come in in relief. Stanton also picked up the pitching win, allowing two runs in four innings of relief.
Auburndale is now 6-2 overall and 2-2 in the Marawood South, while Assumption drops to 4-1 and 3-1 in the conference.
Auburndale hosts Wausau Newman Catholic on Tuesday.
