Stanton tosses no-hitter for Auburndale softball in win over Newman Catholic

AUBURNDALE – Auburndale pitcher Samantha Stanton threw a five-inning no-hitter as the Eagles shut out Wausau Newman Catholic 10-0 in a Marawood Conference South Division softball game Tuesday at Auburndale High School.

Stanton faced the minimum number of batters in five innings. Only one hitter reached for Newman Catholic, that coming on a one-out error in the top of the fifth before the Eagles turned a double play to finish off the victory.

Stanton also had two hits and three RBI, and Ashlyn Grimm had two hits, scored twice and also drove in two for Auburndale (7-2, 3-2 Marawood South).

Ashley Jankowski took the loss for the Cardinals, striking out two and walking three in four innings.

The two teams will play against Thursday at Sunnyvale Park beginning at 4:45 p.m.
