Tomfohrde hits for 20 points as Auburndale girls basketball beats Edgar

AUBURNDALE – Auburndale used an 18-2 run in the third quarter to pull away and knock off Edgar 51-36 in a Marawood Conference South Division girls basketball game Tuesday night at Auburndale High School.

The Apaches led 25-19 at halftime before blowing past Edgar in the third and cruising to their fifth straight win to start the season and improve to 2-0 in the Marawood South. The loss is Edgar’s first, falling to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the Marawood South.

Liz Breu scored four baskets and nine of her 15 points in the third quarter run for the Apaches. Kelly Tomforhde scored six of her game-high 20 in the third as well for Auburndale.

Auburndale was 21 of 37 from the field, shooting a sizzling 56 percent. Tomfohrde was nine of 12, hitting two of three from 3-point range, and added a team-high six rebounds and three steals.

Faryn Wirkus scored 11 points to lead Edgar.

Auburndale hosts Wisconsin Rapids Assumption at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
