Stratford wrestlers win final match to edge Edgar

EDGAR – Mark Marquardt grabbed a major decision and four team points to lift the Stratford wrestling team to a 34-33 come-from-behind dual meet win over Marawood Conference rival Edgar on Tuesday night.

Marquardt won the 160-pound match over Tyler Crawford 13-4, scoring an escape, a two-point nearfall and two takedowns in the second period to build the lead, then held on for the all-important major decision and the team victory.

Luke Radke (189) had Stratford’s only pin of the match, taking down Dominique Lehman in 2:46.

The Tigers benefitted from three forfeit wins to take a 27-14 lead before Edgar rallied to take a 33-30 lead heading into the final match.

Stratford is at Abbotsford on Dec. 21.
