AUBURNDALE – Aden Cherney delivered a sacrifice fly to score Tim Schmitt with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Auburndale defeated Stratford 4-3 in a Marawood Conference South Division baseball game Thursday at Auburndale High School.
The Tigers took a 3-2 lead after RBI singles by Vance Kielman and Henry Zaleski.
Auburndale tied it in the bottom of the frame as Blake Raab smacked an RBI double with two outs and the score remained 3-3 going into extra innings.
Stratford threatened in the top of the eighth as it had a runner on second base with one out, but couldn’t score.

In the bottom of the eighth, Schmitt led off with a single, Rachu reached on a fielder’s choice after a bunt attempt and Raab was walked to load the bases. Cherney then connected on the fly ball and Schmitt beat the throw home to earn the walk-off victory for Auburndale (8-4, 6-2 Marawood South).
Brady Berg had a pair of doubles for Stratford (6-3, 4-2 Marawood South).
Kaden Anderson had two hits for the Eagles.
Stratford plays a make-up game at Wausau Newman Catholic on Friday at Brockmeyer Park, before hosting Athens on Monday and Edgar on Tuesday. Auburndale is off until Tuesday when it plays at first-place Marathon.
