NEILLSVILLE – Neillsville scored three times in the first and held off a late rally to defeat Marshfield Columbus Catholic 5-3 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball game Monday at Neillsville High School.
Two walks and an error led the big first inning for Neillsville, which also tacked on a run in the fifth.
Columbus Catholic got the run back in the top of the sixth when Emmitt Konieczny doubled and scored on an error.
In the seventh, three walks loaded the bases before an error allowed two Dons to score, cutting Neillsville’s lead to 5-3. Bryce Erickson struck out the next batter to earn the save for the Warriors, who are now 10-1 overall and remain undefeated at 8-0 in the Cloverbelt East.
Emmitt Konieczny and Grant Olson each had two hits for the Dons (4-6, 3-2 Cloverbelt East).
Columbus Catholic hosts Owen-Withee at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Jack Hackman Field.
