Marshfield girls soccer shuts out Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT – The Marshfield girls soccer team remain undefeated in the Wisconsin Valley Conference after posting a 2-0 shutout of Stevens Point on Tuesday night at the Portage County Youth Soccer Complex.

Marshfield led 1-0 at halftime after a Stevens Point own goal in the 26th minutes.

Avery Weister set up Grace Taylor for a 1-on-1 opportunity and Taylor delivered in the 56th minute to up the Tigers’ lead to 2-0.

Marshfield controlled play for much of the game, and the midfield play of Abby Ongna, Shilo Smith, Pressley Franklin, Hayden Berger, Cassie Langfoss and Maddie Nikolai, and the defense led by Kaylin Kurth, Devin Miller, Samantha Kilty, Mia Preston, Ava Paape, and goalkeeper Payton Bremer, were key, assistant coach Jeff Molter said.

Marshfield is now 7-4-1 overall and 5-0 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, while Stevens Point falls to 3-5-1 and 1-4 in the WVC.

Marshfield hosts Pulaski on Saturday in a nonconference matchup beginning at 11 a.m.
