MARSHFIELD – Wisconsin Rapids scored two second-half goals in a span of eight minutes to hand the Marshfield girls soccer team its first Wisconsin Valley Conference loss by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday night at Heiting Community Stadium.

Abby Ongna scored on an assist from Maddie Nikolai at the 10:52 mark of the first half to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.

The advantage held until 4:37 into the second half when Abbey Gust scored for Wisconsin Rapids to knot the score at 1-1.

Aliyah Jennings hit what proved to be the game-winner in the 53rd minute for the Raiders, who earn a split with Marshfield in the season series and improves to 6-6-1 overall and 4-3 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. Click here to view the Wisconsin Valley Conference girls soccer standings

Marshfield falls to 8-6-1 overall and 6-1 in the WVC, but remains in sole possession of first place as D.C. Everest (5-1-1) tied Wausau West 3-3 on Tuesday.

Marshfield plays at Wausau West on Thursday before wrapping up its conference slate at D.C. Everest next Tuesday, May 23.
