MARSHFIELD – Tyler Heiman tied for second with an 80 and Kyle Berres tied for sixth with an 84 to lead Marshfield to a second-place finish at the final leg of the seven-meet Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Golf Tournament on Friday at RiverEdge Golf Course.
Wausau East finished with a score of 341 to clinch the WVC team title, while Marshfield was two strokes back with a 343 and ended up second in the conference standings.
Ethan Schnitzler shot an 88 to finish ninth, Keegan Fredrick tied for 12th with a 91 and Maxx Oertel took 15th with a 92 as well for the Tigers.
Russell Harder of Wausau West was meet medalist with a 79 which catapulted him into fifth in the overall individual standings to earn first-team all-conference honors.
Wausau East’s Cooper Bjerke was the individual conference champion after he shot an 84 to tie Berres for sixth. Bjerke, Sawyer Krambs of Wausau East, Carter Morrison of Wisconsin Rapids and Berres rounded out the first-team all-conference players.
Schnitzler ended up 10th to earn second-team all-WVC, and Heiman finished 11th to grab honorable mention status.
Marshfield will compete at the WIAA Division 1 regional at Northwoods Golf Course in Rhinelander on Tuesday. The top four teams and top five individuals who are not members of the top four teams qualify for the Division 1 sectional at RiverEdge on Tuesday, May 30.
