RHINELANDER – Marshfield is heading to sectionals after finishing fourth at the WIAA Division 1 Boys Golf Regional on Tuesday at Northwood Golf Club.
The top four teams and top four individuals not on those teams qualify for the Division 1 sectional on Tuesday, May 30, at RiverEdge Golf Course in Marshfield.
The Tigers will be playing on their home course after finishing with a score of 340, which was 11 strokes better than fifth-place Stevens Point.
Lakeland (324), Wausau East (329) and Rhinelander (339) were the top three and will move on to the sectional.
Jack Rubo of Lakeland was the regional champion with a 1-over par 73, three shots in front of Wausau East’s Teddy Schlindwein.
Maxx Oertel led Marshfield with an 81 to finish in sixth place. Kyle Berres had an 85, Keegan Fredrick had an 86, Ethan Schnitzler shot an 88 and Tyler Heiman had a 92 for the Tigers.
The top two teams and top three individuals not on those teams at the sectional qualify for the 2023 WIAA State Boys Golf Tournament at the Meadows Course at Blackwolf Run in Kohler on June 5-6.
