AUBURNDALE – Samantha Stanton and Ashlyn Grimm combined on a no-hitter as the Auburndale softball team blanked Markesan 7-0 in a WIAA Division 4 regional final Thursday at Auburndale High School.
The top-seeded Eagles (15-4) will host Marawood Conference South rival Stratford (16-9) in a D-4 sectional semifinal Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Auburndale High School. The teams split a conference doubleheader on May 4. Markesan finishes the season 11-12.
Stanton struck out five in five innings and Grimm whiffed five in two innings to finish off the no-hitter for Auburndale.
The Eagles got off to a good start with a three-run first inning as Grimm knocked in a run and Regynn Lau drove in two with singles.
Grimm added another RBI single in a three-run fifth for the Eagles.
The winner of the Stratford-Auburndale matchup will play the winner of No. 1 seed Blair-Taylor (23-3) and No. 7 Osseo-Fairchild (13-8) in a sectional final on June 1 at Blair-Taylor High School with a state tournament berth on the line.
