STRATFORD – Jackson Ormond doubled home Braeden Schueller with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Stratford baseball team a wild 11-10 win over Elk Mound in a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal Tuesday at the Tiger Stadium Baseball Field.
No. 4 seed Stratford (16-5) moves on to a D-3 regional final at No. 1 seed Marathon (16-5) on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Marawood Conference South Division rivals split their regular-season series this season.
Elk Mound started strong with two runs in the first inning only to see Stratford storm back with a five-run bottom of the frame. Schueller had an RBI double and Ormond followed with a two-run homer to start the rally. Brady Schmidt smacked a two-run double later in the inning to give the Tigers a 5-3 lead.
The Tigers extended their lead to 8-3 in the fourth inning as Schueller smacked a two-run homer and Henry Zaleski had an RBI double.
Elk Mound chipped away and tied it up at 8-8 with a four-run sixth, but the Tigers responded again, scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Ormond and a sacrifice fly by Zaleski.
The Mounders took tied it again in top of the seventh and the game went to extra innings before Ormond won it with the ringing double to keep Stratford’s season alive.
Ormond finished with three hits and four RBI, and Schueller had two hits and three RBI to lead the Stratford offense.
Vance Kielman picked up the win, retiring all four batters he faced for the Tigers.
