HOLMEN – The Marshfield Post 54 American Legion baseball team opened its 2023 season with a split of a nonconference doubleheader Saturday against Holmen.
Holmen won 3-0 before Marshfield turned the tables with a 3-2 win in Game 2 to split the twinbill.
The Blue Devils had six hits, three from Adam Gilbertson, in Game 1 but couldn’t get a run across. Holmen scored all three of its runs in the fifth inning.
In the second game, Marshfield scored three times in the top of the first inning on RBI doubles by Brock Benning, Gilbertson and Andrew Sieracki.
Aden Cherney went 6 1/3 innings, striking out nine, to earn the victory. Chase Robinson nailed down the save by getting the final two outs with runners on first and third base.
Marshfield hosts Antigo in its home opener Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Jack Hackman Field.
