STEVENS POINT – Stevens Point scored three times in the second period and held on to a 4-2 win over Marshfield in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey game Tuesday night.
The loss knocks the Tigers to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, while Stevens Point Area Senior High improves to 4-5 and 2-2 in the Valley.
After a scoreless first period, SPASH scored three goals in a 7-minute stretch to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
The Tigers fought back. Zac Alboreo scored with just 16 seconds left in the second period and added another goal with 5:37 left in the third, but the Tigers couldn’t find the back of the net again.
SPASH finished the scoring when Matthew Dufresne netted his second goal of the game with 1:42 left.
Marshfield goalie Mac Alboreo had 38 saves, including 21 in the second period, as SPASH outshot the Tigers 24-7 in the period.
Marshfield hosts the Andrew Thiel Memorial Tournament next Monday through Wednesday at the Marshfield Youth Ice Recreation Arena. The Tigers play DeForest at 7 p.m. Monday, Altoona at 5 p.m. Tuesday and Chippewa Falls McDonell at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the round-robin tournament.
