Marshfield volleyball player Abby Ongna has been voted the Grassland Dairy High School Athlete of the Month for August.
MarshfieldAreaSports.com & Zaleski Sports co-sponsor the award, which is in its 14th year. Grassland Dairy is the new main sponsor.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Amherst, Athens, Assumption, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, D.C. Everest, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Iola-Scandinavia, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Mosinee, Neillsville, Pacelli, Pittsville, Port Edwards, Rosholt, Spencer, Stratford, Stevens Point, Waupaca, Wausau Newman Catholic, Wild Rose, Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln and Wittenberg-Birnamwood.
Ongna received 2,319 of the nearly 5,400 votes cast during voting from Sept. 5-12 at MarshfieldAreaSports.com.
Other nominees for the August award were: Waupaca volleyball player Peyton Carlson, Abbotsford football player Christian Fuentes, Pittsville football player Dawson Luther, Auburndale football player Evan Scholl and Stratford volleyball player Kalyn Schueller.
Ongna, a senior hitter, was a key part in helping the Tigers roll out to a 12-1 start to the season in August. Ongna had 54 kills, 18 digs and seven service aces as Marshfield went 4-0 at the Eau Claire North Tournament on Aug. 22, finished with 73 kills and 50 digs as the Tigers were 7-1 at the Sun Prairie East Tournament on Aug. 25-26, and had 10 kills and eight digs in a 3-0 sweep of Stevens Point in Marshfield’s Wisconsin Valley Conference opener Aug. 31.
