MARSHFIELD – Marshfield scored six times before halftime to take complete control and went on to post a 7-1 victory of Merrill in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys soccer game Thursday night at Heiting Community Stadium.
All six Marshfield goals in the first half came withing a span of 19½ minutes, with Keegan Fredrick and Matthew Uphoff scoring twice, and Isaac Gamble and Eli Bremer added goals in the win.
Aaron Ongna scored the final goal with 11:07 to go for the Tigers (6-8-1, 3-3-1 WVC).
Mason Croston had two assists, and Mason Horn, Yael Piossy, Fredrick and Joey Ketterer also had assists in the win for Marshfield.
Tyler Spade had the only goal for Merrill (4-10, 0-7 WVC).
“We had the opportunity to get everyone involved tonight for several minutes of good time, which also allowed us to have some of our younger players see significant minutes. That gave them a chance to learn how to get comfortable with the rate of play and the physical portion of the game,” Marshfield coach Jeff Molter said.
Marshfield will host Wausau East on Tuesday for its final home game of the regular season at Heiting Community Stadium. Game time is 7 p.m.
