MARSHFIELD – Zac Alboreo netted a goal 3:52 into overtime to lift the Marshfield boys hockey team to a 4-3 win over Regis/McDonell/Bloomer at the final game of the three-day Andrew Thiel Memorial Hockey Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at the Marshfield Youth Ice Recreation Arena.
Marshfield finishes 2-1 in the tournament, tied for second place with Fox Cities. Oshkosh won the tournament with a 2-0-1 record. Oshkosh beat DeForest 5-4 and Fox Cities routed Altoona 7-1 in other games Wednesday.
Marshfield (3-7) jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Schuyler Seyfert and Austin Littmann scored goals in the first period.
The Tigers led 3-1 after two periods off a goal by Bobby Leggon, but RMB rallied, scoring twice in the third period, including the game-tying goal by Garrett Nowak with just 32 seconds left in regulation.
Marshfield goalie Mac Alboreo saved three shots in the overtime period before his brother, Zac, smashed in the game-winner. Mac Alboreo finished with 23 saves.
The Tigers return to their Wisconsin Valley Conference schedule on Tuesday at home against Wausau West, which is ranked No. 2 in the state by wisconsinprephockey.com.
