NEW RICHMOND – New Richmond rushed for more than 400 yards and overcame a first-quarter deficit to defeat Marshfield 39-22 in a WIAA Division 2 Level 1 football playoff game Friday night at New Richmond High School.
No. 2 seed New Richmond (9-1) moves on to a Level 2 matchup against No. 3 Menomonie (8-2) at home next Friday, Oct. 27. Marshfield, the No. 7 seed, finishes its season with a 4-6 record.
Adam Gilbertson tossed a 40-yard touchdown pass to Brooks Hinson as Marshfield took a quick 7-0 lead.
Marshfield led 7-3 until New Richmond scored two rushing touchdowns in the second quarter to pull ahead 17-7 and led the rest of the way.
Miles Burke added a 78-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter to pad New Richmond’s lead. Burke finished with 266 yards rushing as New Richmond finished with 411 in all and 514 total yards in the victory.
Braden Anderson had a pair of rushing touchdowns in the second half for Marshfield, going for 6 and 53 yards.
