Edgar football player Karter Butt has been voted the Grassland Dairy High School Athlete of the Month for October.
MarshfieldAreaSports.com & Zaleski Sports co-sponsor the award, which is in its 15th year. Grassland Dairy is the new main sponsor for the 2023-24 school year.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Amherst, Athens, Assumption, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, D.C. Everest, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Iola-Scandinavia, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Mosinee, Neillsville, Pacelli, Pittsville, Port Edwards, Rosholt, Spencer, Stratford, Stevens Point, Waupaca, Wausau Newman Catholic, Wild Rose, Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln and Wittenberg-Birnamwood.
Butt received 5,041 of the 11,000+ votes cast during voting from Nov. 1-8 at MarshfieldAreaSports.com.
Other nominees for the October award were: Wausau Newman Catholic volleyball player Paige Guld, Stevens Point girls swimmer Klare Pilger, Marshfield cross country runner Natalie Scharenbroch, Marshfield Columbus Catholic cross country runner Isaac Scheer, and Iola-Scandinavia cross country runner Charlie Vater.
Butt, a senior running back and linebacker, had three 100-yard rushing games and scored multiple touchdowns in each of the Wildcats’ four games in October, all shutout wins. Butt totaled 504 rushing yards and nine touchdowns in the month and ran for 1,269 yards and 24 scores in the Wildcats’ 11 games through the end of October. He had 14 total tackles in a playoff win over Glenwood City on Oct. 20 and had 80 for the season entering November. Edgar will play for a spot in the WIAA Division 7 state finals on Friday against Bangor at Durand-Arkansaw High School.
Other winners of the award during the 2023-24 school sports year include: Marshfield volleyball player Abby Ongna (August) and Stevens Point football player Jackson Spees (September).
