Tomah/Sparta shuts out Marshfield boys hockey

TOMAH – The Marshfield boys hockey team dropped its opening game at the Tomah Invitational on Saturday, losing 5-0 to Tomah/Sparta at Tomah Ice Center.

Following a scoreless first period, the Titans scored twice in the second period and three times in the third to pull away and send Marshfield (1-1) to its first loss of the season.

Reed Gieseking had 41 saves in goal for Marshfield, which was outshot 46-24. Ashton Steele saved all 24 shots he saw in goal for Tomah/Sparta, which was playing its season opener.

Marshfield will play Black River Falls in the third-place game at 2 p.m., with Tomah/Sparta taking on Monona Grove in the championship game of the tournament at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
