SPENCER – Trailing by three entering the fourth quarter, the Spencer boys basketball team rallied to avoid its third straight loss.

The Rockets did, outscoring Loyal 16-9 over the final 8 minutes to beat the Greyhounds 38-34 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Tuesday night at Spencer High School.

Wyatt Phillips scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Steven Gilboy had 13 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Rockets (3-4 overall and Cloverbelt East).

Spencer took advantage of poor shooting all around by Loyal to pull out the win. The Greyhounds (3-5, 3-4 Cloverbelt East) shot just 23.3 percent (10 of 43) from the field and 47.4 percent (9 of 19) from the free-throw line.

Spencer shot just 39.5 percent (15 of 36) and committed 20 turnovers, but was able to grab its third win of the season. Spencer hosts Colby, which suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday to Neillsville, on Friday at Spencer High School.
