STRATFORD – Stratford made six free throws in the final minute to get past Edgar 57-54 in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game Friday night at Stratford High School.
Drew Bruesewitz broke a 51-51 tie with two free throws with 44 seconds left for Stratford and the Tigers were able to hold on the rest of the way.
Stratford’s Payton Glenn made two free throws before Karter Butt drilled a 3-pointer for Edgar to make it 55-54 with 17.9 seconds left.
Brady Schmidt made one of two free throws for Stratford before Edgar had a chance to tie it at the line after a Tigers’ foul. But the Wildcats missed and a held ball went over to Stratford. Schmidt made another free throw before a miss, giving Edgar one last chance.
After a timeout, Edgar’s 3-point attempt at the buzzer missed to finish off the win for the Tigers (5-1, 3-1 Marawood South).
Bruesewitz finished 10-for-10 at the free throw line and with a team-high 15 points for the Tigers. Reid Miller made four 3-pointers and added 14 points, and Henry Zaleski scored 11 in the win.
Edgar (3-1 overall and Marawood South) statistics were not reported.
Stratford hosts Wausau Newman Catholic on Tuesday.
