Cold-shooting Columbus girls basketball team loses to Greenwood

MARSHFIELD – Taylan Johnson scored 12 points to lift Greenwood to a 42-28 win over Marshfield Columbus Catholic in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division girls basketball game Thursday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

The difference came at the free-throw line for Greenwood, which improves to 5-3 and 4-1 in the Cloverbelt East.

The Indians made 14 of 21 free throws, while Columbus struggled, making just 2 of 13 attempts from the line.

Greenwood built a 20-9 lead by halftime thanks to Johnson, who scored eight of her 12 points in the first 16 minutes.

Deanna Kaiser and Abby Gotz scored seven points each for the Dons, who lost their fourth straight game to fall to 3-6 and 2-4 in the Cloverbelt East.

Columbus plays at unbeaten Neillsville on Tuesday.
