MADISON – Charles Ayer scored 2:24 into overtime to lift Cedarburg to a 6-5 win over Marshfield in a first-round matchup at the Culver’s Cup Boys Hockey Tournament on Wednesday.
Marshfield came back from a two-goal deficit in the final seven minutes of regulation as Tyler Reissmann and Joey Cashmer scored for the Tigers to knot the game up at 5-5. Neither team scored in the final 4½ minutes of regulation, sending it to overtime, where Cedarburg was able to score early to secure the win.
Zak Mayer, Tanner Shortt and Thomas Cashmer added goals for Marshfield (5-8).
Marshfield will play Northland Pines in a consolation bracket game Thursday at 5 p.m. as the three-day tournament continues.
