Four pins lead Marshfield wrestlers to first WVC victory

WESTON – Ben Wartella, Toran Nieman, Torin Boernke and Josh Shupe had pins to lead the Marshfield wrestling team to a 40-26 win over D.C. Everest in a Wisconsin Valley Conference dual meet Thursday night at D.C. Everest High School.

The win is the Tigers’ first WVC dual victory of the season, as they improve to 1-2 (6-3 overall).

Wartella started the match with a pin of Jeff Jensen at 2:24 of the 285-pound match.

After Aaron Sternweis won at 103 by forfeit, Nieman took down Ben Dietel in just 37 seconds to win at 112 and give Marshfield an 18-0 lead.

Boernke (140) and Brad Dolezal (160) improved to 18-0 this season with their victories. Boernke pinned Josh Dupuis in 2:53 and Dolezal won a major decision over Lucas Christianson 14-3.

Shupe pinned Aaron Passow at 4:55 of the 145-pound match to improve to 18-1.

Marshfield hosts its home invitational on Saturday.
