AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale girls basketball team took a 10-point lead into halftime and held on in the second half to defeat Wausau Newman Catholic 48-37 in a Marawood Conference South Division game Tuesday at Auburndale High School.
Sidney Wolff scored 10 points, and Lily Bellanti and Rose Hasenohrl each added nine in the win for the Eagles, who are now 11-4 overall and 8-1 in the Marawood South, one game in back of first-place and undefeated Wisconsin Rapids Assumption.
Evie Bates had 13 points and Lily Shields scored 10 for Newman Catholic, which lost its fifth game in a row and falls to 2-13 overall and 1-9 in the Marawood South.

Auburndale plays a Marawood crossover game at Phillips (13-2) on Thursday. Newman Catholic is back in action Friday at Chequamegon.
