MANITOWOC – The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County women’s basketball team returned to the court after a month off for semester break and picked up its fourth win of the season, beating UW-Manitowoc 68-65 on Saturday afternoon.
The Marauders (4-8) were playing with just five players and trailed 38-27 at halftime before storming back.
Marshfield had to play the final 38 seconds with four players after Marissa Draxler fouled out, but had a six-point lead at the time and held on to win by three.
Karlee Rosentreter and Ashley Pongratz each scored 18 points, Paige Albrecht added 15 points, four assists and five steals, and Draxler finished with 14 points for the Marauders. Pongratz had a team-high 11 rebounds.
“I have never had to finish a game with less than five players, so needless to say, that was a very long 38 seconds,” UW-Marshfield coach Lori Galetka said. “This isn’t the first time this group has bounced back from a 10-point plus deficit at the half. This group has proven that they don’t quit. They just keep plugging away.”
The Marauders play at UW-Washington County in West Bend on Monday.
