MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield High School athletic department has announced the hiring of Josh Knecht as its new varsity girls volleyball coach.

Knecht has been with the Marshfield program for the past 13 years, 10 as the JV head coach and the past two as a varsity assistant under long-time head coach Dawn Sadowska.

Prior to coming to Marshfield, Knecht, who teams chemistry at the high school, was the head coach at Tri-County High School for seven seasons.

“It is a truly tremendous honor to be named head coach of the Marshfield Tiger volleyball program following the 33-year tenure of Coach Sadowska,” Knecht said. “I learned so much about the game of volleyball and how to run a program by working with her over several years. I look forward to the challenge of continuing this success of the program for years to come by working with the other coaches on the staff and the talented players coming back next year.”

Sadowska announced her retirement from coaching following the completion of the 2023 season. She finished her 33-year career with an 847-369 record, 13 Wisconsin Valley Conference titles – including each of the last four seasons – and seven WIAA state tournament appearances.

“We are excited to have Josh Knecht as our new head volleyball coach,” Marshfield High School athletic director Nathan DeLany said in a statement on Friday. “His extensive coaching experience, coupled with his deep understanding of our school’s volleyball program, make him the ideal candidate to lead our team into the future.

“Josh Knecht’s vision for the program aligns with the values upheld by Marshfield High School. As the torchbearer of the volleyball legacy at MHS, Knecht is poised to build on the foundation laid by Coach Sadowska and elevate the program to new heights.”
