WAUSAU – The Spencer girls basketball team blew open a tight game in the second half and defeated Wausau Newman Catholic 51-27 in a nonconference game Monday at Newman Catholic High School.

The Rockets led 25-19 at halftime before holding Newman Catholic to just eight points in the second half, cruising to the 24-point victory.

Autumn Davis scored 14 points, and Montana Kohls and Alexis Mlsna each added eight in the win for Spencer, which is now 5-12 this season.

Spencer’s stellar defense in the second half proved to be more than enough as it rolled to the win despite making just 7 of 19 free throws.

The Cardinals only had seven made field goals, with 11 of their 27 points coming at the free throw line. No player scored more than six for Newman Catholic (4-13).

Spencer is back in action Thursday at Greenwood.
