MARSHFIELD – Wisconsin Rapids jumped out to a two-goal lead in the first period and held on to defeat Marshfield 8-5 in a wild Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey game Thursday at the Marshfield Area Ice Arena.
Wisconsin Rapids led 3-1 before Marshfield tied the game up early in the second period on Tyler Reissmann’s second goal of the game.
The Raiders would score four of the next five goals to open up a big lead and held on for the win, improving to 15-5 overall and 6-4 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference.
Cashton Anderson, Jack Mattila and Cole Kenney added goals for Marshfield (9-14, 1-8 Wisconsin Valley Conference).
Carsen Gause had a hat trick, and Carter Morrison had a goal and four assists for Wisconsin Rapids.
Marshfield wraps up its Wisconsin Valley Conference and regular-season schedule Tuesday at home against Wausau East/Merrill.
